My 30-Second "Elevator Pitch"

I'm very inquisitive and observant of life and the people I
meet along the way. I believe that good music, people in
your life who understand you, and the ability to laugh at
yourself are a few of the keys to happiness. I appreciate the
little things and dream of the big things. Sometimes I drink
coffee before bed and eat dessert before dinner. I write to
relieve my creative tension, try to think before I speak, usually
color inside the lines, and always find time to pamper myself
whenever life has been a little too rough.

How This Site Came to Be

I created my first website in 2001 as a final project for a
technical writing course. Because my instructor forbade the
use of templates, we only used HTML coding to create our
little web worlds. After showing off my published site to my
classmates, I was excited about the ways I would put my
site-building skills to use. But, sadly, in the years since, I've
become what is known as a online lurker―visiting sites, writing
nearly thesis-length comments on various blogs and message
boards, and constantly reminding myself that I need an online
presence as well.

And here it is, my newly acquired piece of the web pie. The
process was harder this time around because technology has
surpassed me. And it's different now because I'm not doing
this for a letter grade, but for developing freelance
writing
and editing opportunities and sharing my creative writing
snippets and nonfiction knick knacks. In short, my page header
says it all―I am a writer and editor. And I love it. So please,
take a look around to see if my writing and editing could come
in handy with something that you are working on.

My Goals

I want this site to serve as

  • A portfolio of work samples (an "information center") to
advance my freelance editing and writing career.
  • A tool to enable networking with other writers and editors.
  • A marketplace for information on writing contests,
writers' conferences, writing and editing guides, and
other helpful resources for members of the editorial and
    publishing community.
  • A home for my creative writing accomplishments.

"A book is the only place

examine a fragile
thought without
breaking it, or explore an
explosive idea without
fear it will go off in your
face. It is one of the few
havens remaining where
a man's mind can get
both provocation and
privacy."

"It was a great
pleasure working with
Jennifer Singleton. I
had an article that
needed editing and
was referred to Ms.
Singleton for the job.
She was very
professional when we
discussed my

I will definitely be
